Mark Baumert joined the NBC Nebraska News Team as the News Director in February 2016.
Mark is a native Nebraskan and has lived in Central Nebraska more than 30 years. He and his wife Teresa live near Doniphan. Teresa is an educator at Barr Middle School in Grand Island. Both Mark and his wife are active members of St. Leo's parish in Grand Island, where Mark also participates in the parish music ministry.
He returns to broadcasting after a four-year hiatus. He formerly was News Director at NTV in Kearney. Mark's track record includes development of successful news programs, extended live coverage of community events, and internal development and training of broadcast journalists with whom he has worked.
Mark believes that every community, regardless of size, deserves top-notch news coverage from its local TV station. That principle guides the decisions he makes in daily news coverage. Mark is grateful for the many professional relationships he holds with community leaders in Central Nebraska. More than that, he appreciates the friendships he's built along the way with Central Nebraska TV viewers.
During a four-year break from broadcasting, Mark worked for Energy Pioneers Solutions in Hastings where he researched and wrote training materials, developed reports for utility partners and directed the company's Human Resources Department.
Mark is eager to return to broadcasting so that he can renew his relationship with Central Nebraska viewers. He's also looking forward to working with the talented team at NBC Nebraska. He is excited to build on the foundation they've already established and will draw on his vast experience to help NBC Nebraska deliver the best possible news product to Central Nebraska viewers.
His outside interests include Husker football (GBR!!), literature and working on his lawn and garden. He plays the guitar and sings at St. Leo's parish.
He is also an enthusiastic....but mediocre...golfer.
