Shaleeka Powell joined the NBC Nebraska News team as a Video Journalist in March 2016.

Shaleeka is a Stockton, California native, who loves storytelling and is excited to report in Nebraska! Prior to moving to Nebraska, Shaleeka received her Master’s Degree in Journalism from USC (Fight On!). At the university, she was a reporter, anchor, and multimedia journalist for Annenberg TV News and a host and correspondent for a live show on Trojan Vision, “Morning Brew.” Shaleeka was fortunate to spend a summer abroad in Cape Town, South Africa to work as a reporter/producer for a few local stations.

During her two years at USC, she also worked as a news associate for CBS News in Los Angeles, where she learned a lot about the news industry and developed a passion for breaking news.

Shaleeka received her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from California State University Northridge (Go Matadors!), where she was a reporter for the Daily Sundial. At the university, she spent her junior year on exchange in Texas at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). At PVAMU, she was a contributor for The Panther.

Whether on camera or behind the scenes, Shaleeka loves telling stories and meeting new people. If you ever see her don’t be afraid to say hi!
