Grandmother gets 365 days for giving 14-month-old methadone

LINCOLN, (Neb.) The woman who accidentally gave her baby grandson methadone is spending at least 190 days in the Lancaster County Jail.
 
Lincoln Police say the 48-year-old, Rose Rej uses methadone and stored it in baby bottles. Police say she accidentally gave the 14-month-old boy one of those bottles when he was crying at 1:30 a.m.
 
Methadone is an opioid medication. It is often used to reduce withdrawal systems and treat severe pain.
 
When she checked on the child the next morning he was unresponsive. He was then taken to the hospital for extensive treatment, but did survive.
 
A judge found Rej guilty of child abuse, a class 1 misdemeanor. The judge sentenced her to 365 days in jail, with a minimum of 190 days.
