70th & Pioneers Hy-Vee to host Can Care-a-Van Kick Off

Lincoln, NE -- The 10/11 and NBC Nebraska Can Care-a-Van will officially get underway with a Kick Off event in Lincoln on Friday, June 3.

10/11 will be broadcasting live as we collect donations between 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Hy-Vee at 70th and Pioneers. We will be joined by our radio partners from KX96.9 (Alpha Media) and this year’s sponsor, Black Hills Energy.

All donations collected during the Kick Off event will benefit the Food Bank of Lincoln. The 70th & Pioneers Hy-Vee will also accept monetary donations at the registers to make donating even more convenient for shoppers. If you can’t make it out to the Kick Off, blue barrels will remain in all Lincoln Hy-Vee stores throughout the week of Can Care-a-Van.

The most needed food & personal care items at the Food Bank of Lincoln include:

Tuna fish and other canned meats
Cereal
Soup
Rice
Pasta noodles
Spaghetti sauce
Canned fruits and vegetables
100% fruit juices-shelf stable
Peanut butter
Boxed dinners
Personal Care Items
Toilet paper
Diapers
Soap
Feminine hygiene products
Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Shampoo and conditioner

**Please note: We cannot accept individual jars of baby food. We can accept jars of baby food that are encased in plastic, in various case sizes. We can also accept boxes of baby cereal.

This will be the 29th year for the Can Care-a-Van. Members of the 10/11 and NBC Nebraska news teams will travel to towns around Nebraska during the week of June 6 – 11, collecting donations for those communities’ local food pantries.
