Blood donors needed to stem shortage

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Recent bad weather across the country has resulted in over 300 American Red Cross blood donation drives being cancelled. Those cancellations, and a traditionally slow time of year for donations, has led to a shortage in the blood supply.

The American Red Cross donation center in Grand Island is among those asking for donors to help make up the difference.

Jeremy Aupperlee, account manager for the Red Cross, says the process is easy and they are looking for both whole blood and platelets donors.

Recent apps and web site support help donors make appointments and speed up the on site process.

Aupperlee says their office coordinates blood drives throughout central Nebraska at all times. He encourages people to go to their web site for locations.
