Car catches on fire in hotel parking lot

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Local authorities say no one was hurt during a car fire early Wednesday morning in North Platte.

Sheri Hollenback, of Gillette, Wyo., was staying at the Hampton Inn when her car caught on fire. Hollenback started her car, a 2015 Cadillac CTS, in the hotel's parking lot. Then, she went back inside and when she went outside again, the car's front end was engulfed in flames.

According to Battalion Chief David Heitman, the fire started in the car's engine compartment. He does not know what caused the blaze, but he is calling it a freak accident. The snow and cold weather were not believed to be factors.

"It's not really (that) common," Heitman explained. "It's a fairly new vehicle. I have no idea what caused it."

Heitman added that the other cars in the parking lot were far enough way so they were not in danger.
