Rise in child abuse cases with live-in boyfriend/girlfriends

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Family Advocacy Network says that in 2016 females were the most abused. And last year it saw more than 600 new child abuse cases.
Of the new cases, there were 702 abusers. Also biological parents were shown to be the main abusers, but it's those parents with a boyfriend or girlfriend that came in second.

And the owner of Tender Heart thinks she knows why.

"I don't think girls give guys a good enough chance to get to know them before they let them move in and be with their children. They need to take more time. You need to get to know this person," said Thuresa Hogland, owner and director of Tender Heart Daycare.

The daycare owner thinks people should put their children in child care rather than leaving them at home. And if you can't afford it, DHHS has a program for you. Child Care Subsidy helps with the cost of daycare, but you have to meet some guidelines. The program is for children 12 and under. For more information about the subsidy program, click here.
