GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Grand Island police arrested an 18-year-old male after leaving the scene of an injury accident Friday night.

Captain Jim Duering with GIPD tells NBC Nebraska the accident happened at the intersection of South Locust Street and Wedgewood Drive when 18-year-old Cristian Echeverria attempted to pass a truck in front of him, hitting a car waiting to turn left in the center lane around 9:30 Friday night.

After pushing the vehicle into the intersection, Echeverria drives away from the scene, leaving his front bumper at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle hit by Echeverria suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The driver told police he believed Echeverria was going approximately 50 miles per hour down S Locust St. when he was hit and was threatened by Echeverria.

Capt. Duering said Echeverria was found near Charles and Kimball Streets with open containers in his vehicle.

Capt. Duering said Echeverria was not cooperative, resisted arrest and spit on the officer.

Echeverria was arrested for driving under the influence, minor in possession, open containers, terroristic threats and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
