GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The person without insurance isn't the only one paying up, but so are we.
The Affordable Care Act says that by law everyone has to have health insurance. And if you don't, you could be looking at a penalty. Those without insurance could have their income tax taken away. And though they may not have health insurance, they have to be helped by law. But who is actually paying the doctor bill in the long run?
"If they start receiving service, then those folks who have insurance are probably going to pay a higher premium as a result of, as we call, not spreading that risk out enough," said J.J Green, President of Primark Insurance.
The Primark president says that during policy renewals, prices aren't going to be the same as last year. And it's not the decrease we were hoping for. He says that every year the premiums are going up significantly.
Some without insurance aren't always going to be penalized. There are some exclusions like your religious beliefs and your finances that can opt you out of penalties.
