Hastings, NE -- In a rematch of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Semifinal match, the Hastings College men's soccer team defeated the Grand View (Iowa) Vikings 2-1 on Thursday evening at Lloyd Wilson Field.

In the first half, the Broncos (3-2) and the Vikings (1-2-1) went back-and-forth with shots before the Vikings' Simone Raiola connect with the net in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Broncos. This Vikings lead was short lived though, as Cori Hill was assessed a yellow card with a bad tackle in the box. Daniel Whitehall (JR/Warrington, England) then got a penalty kick that he made to tie the match 1-1.

In the 15th minute, Whitehall and Tor Trosten (SO/Tromso, Norway) got the ball to Daniel Simonis (FR/Dettenheim, Germany) who gave the Broncos a 2-1 lead. After the goal, the game started to get a little chippy with Lucas Venegas (SR/Grand Island, NE) getting a yellow card followed by red cards to the Vikings' Vinicius Schwindt and Sam Graving.

In the second half, the pace of the game slowed down quite a bit with Grand View playing two men short before the Broncos finally took the match 2-1.

Hastings outshot Grand View 20-11 and 11-7 on goal, with Venegas and Whitehall tallying four and five shots respectively. As for cards, Hastings was issued two yellow cards and Grand View got a yellow card and two red cards.

The Broncos play again when the Jimmies of Jamestown (N.D.) University come to town on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
