Five-Star Performer: Tori Thomas

Hastings, NE -- If you scroll down the Hastings St. Cecilia volleyball roster, you'll see only one senior on a team of 12 girls. Needless to say, the Hawkettes are experiencing a bit of a youth movement.

But when you've appeared in six straight state tournaments and won two Class C2 titles in the past five seasons, there's no room for growing pains. After all, winning is expected.

For sophomore Tori Thomas, she's doing her part to lead a young team, despite her own youth.

"There's a lot of pressure," she says. "For the past, probably, 10 years or so, we've had phenomenal athletes come through St. Cecilia. Now, it's on our shoulders. Sometimes, I do look up in the middle of practice and think,'Wow, that's up to us.'"

Thomas wants to see her own banner hang from the rafters, and head coach Thera Jones believes players like her will help bring one back.

"She's kind of one of those kids that is only a sophomore, yet you can count on her to make some big plays when you need them," said Jones. "Her experience last year has kind of helped us, especially for this year, so she's a lot more developed than she was."

Whatever she's asked to do, Thomas does it. That's why she's this week's Five Star Performer.
