Hastings, NE The Northwest girls basketball team used a strong second half to fight past St. Cecilia 29-24 on Tuesday. The boys fell behind early en route to a 57-32 loss.
Viking freshman Whitney Brown knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the third quarter and recorded two steals that later led to points for Northwest. The Hawkettes did not score a field goal in the final 10 minutes of the game.
On the boys side, Blane Boyd, Grant Schmidt and Austin Esch propelled the Bluehawks out to an early 11-0 lead in the first. St. Cecilia never turned back after that, Esch leading the way with 22 points.
St. Cecilia is back in action on Thursday at Minden. Northwest is at Adams Central on Friday.
