KEARNEY, Neb. --- UNK Has Three Matches in Texas this Weekend
The Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team is ranked sixth in the latest edition of the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division II Top 25 poll.
UNK (8-1) went 5-0 at home last week, including a sweep of No. 25 Rockhurst (Mo.), to push its home court win streak to 40 in a row. The school record is 66 straight, set from 2002-2005.
The Lopers received 961 points this week to be one of six Central Region teams in the top 11. Southwest Minnesota State (1,172; 44 first place) is the new No. 1 after a 3-1 neutral court win over defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul (1,156; four first place). The Golden Bears are now No. 2.
Besides CU and Southwest, the other Central teams in the poll are Minnesota-Duluth (No. 7), Augustana (No. 9), Winona State (No. 11), Central Oklahoma (No. 13), Central Missouri (No. 15), Wayne State (No. 17), Washburn (No. 23) and Northern State (No. 24).
UNK heads to Texas this week to face the Midwestern State Texans (5-2), West Texas A&M Lady Buffs (5-3) and Lubbock Christian Chaparrals (2-6).
