SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. In Scottsbluff, nearly 80 women, men and children protested outside Deb Fischer’s office Saturday afternoon.

Scottsbluff protesters are opposing Fischer’s backing of Secretary of Education Nominee, Betsy DeVos. Saturday’s protest is just one of a chain of protests in the state, on Friday about 200 protested in Omaha.

Protest organizer, Stan Kontogiannis say protesters have called, e-mailed and wrote to Fischer to vote against DeVos. He says DeVos is unqualified for the job and is a ‘pay-to-play politician.’

Protesters yelled a series of chants including “no, no, no DeVos” and “Deb Fischer, Dump DeVos.” The protest was organized in less than 24 hours.

“This is not a political issue in the regards to just democrats, we have independents, non-partisan and republicans. We have everybody here, who’s here united to talk about our children and our educational school system,” said Kontogiannis.

Kontogiannis say protesters fear DeVos will take money from public education, and wants somebody qualified to represent the future of America’s education.
